Poughkeepsie, NY – Coming off a dominant¬†win Friday night, the Gladiators were poised to keep the momentum going against 8-year old Poughkeepsie team. But Poughkeepsie quickly set the tone with some dominant pitching early on and an 8 run lead after only 2 innings. Poughkeepsie pulled their ace after the second inning, in a tournament rule misunderstanding they’d later regret, and the Gladiators capitalized. Scoring 9 runs with some scrappy base running and good strike zone management, the Gladiators took the lead in the bottom of the 4th. Poughkeepsie tied the game in the 5th, but our relief staff kept them in check otherwise and an error by Poughkeepsie in the bottom of the 6th allowed the winning run to cross the plate for the Gladiators.

The Gladiators only had 2 hits in this game, bringing their tournament total so far to a whopping 6. But they’ve scored 28 runs in just 2 games (with the help of 39 walks). Safe to say their batters are very selective at the plate.

Orange County will again have to step up their game as they play two teams on Sunday that are a year older than they are. Will they live and die by the base on balls or will the bats come alive tomorrow?
